Coal River Group
About
The Coal River Group is a watershed-based nonprofit committed to cleaning up, restoring, and promoting the Coal River system in southern West Virginia. Through river cleanups, habitat improvement projects, and public outreach, the organization works to turn a historically impacted waterway into a destination for fishing, paddling, and family-friendly recreation. Their mission focuses on improving water quality, increasing public awareness, and building a culture of stewardship.
By developing access points and supporting events like the Tour de Coal, the group demonstrates how river restoration can drive new recreation opportunities and community pride. This blend of environmental recovery and access development supports Access Appalachia’s goal of connecting people with revitalized waterways and emerging outdoor corridors throughout the Appalachian region.
