Greenbrier Grotto

About

The Greenbrier Grotto is the local chapter of the National Speleological Society serving the Greenbrier and Pocahontas county region — one of the most cave-rich areas in West Virginia. The grotto brings together cavers of all experience levels for exploration, education, and conservation work in the underground landscape of the Greenbrier Valley. As a local chapter of the NSS, the grotto connects members to the broader national caving community while focusing on the specific caves and karst systems of this region.

Greenbrier County sits atop one of the most extensive cave networks in North America — the same limestone geology that produces the famous Lost World Caverns and Organ Cave also shelters hundreds of wild caves known primarily to dedicated local cavers. The Greenbrier Grotto is the community that keeps that knowledge alive and practices the responsible stewardship that keeps those caves accessible.
