Elk River Trail Foundation

About

The Elk River Trail Foundation supports the development and continued life of the Elk River Rail-Trail, a multi-use trail following the former Elk River Railroad corridor through Clay, Kanawha, and Braxton counties. The trail runs through one of West Virginia's more rural and underserved regions, making it not just a recreation asset but a community one — a linear park connecting small towns along a corridor that doesn't have many other outdoor recreation anchors.

ERTF works on the unglamorous fundamentals: maintenance, access, partnerships with local governments and landowners, and advocacy for the trail's long-term future. Their work is a reminder that trail systems don't sustain themselves and that the organizations willing to do the consistent stewardship work are what keep trails open and improving over time.
