The Assault on Mt. Mitchell
About Us
The Assault on Mt. Mitchell is one of the most iconic and demanding endurance cycling events in the United States, covering roughly 102.7 miles from Spartanburg, South Carolina to the summit of Mount Mitchell, the highest peak east of the Mississippi. Riders take on more than 10,000 feet of climbing, starting with rolling foothills before finishing with a punishing ascent along the Blue Ridge Parkway and up into the high-elevation spruce forest near the summit. Known as the “Beast of the East,” the ride blends long-distance endurance with sustained mountain climbing, drawing hundreds of cyclists each year for a true test of strength, patience, and determination.
